The Alfa Romeo team brought the updated front wing to Japan, but only Valtteri Bottas tested it in Friday practice. Guanyu Zhou chose not to take any risks on a wet track and will test the novelty on Saturday. Both drivers were satisfied with the speed of the car in the rain.
Valtteri Bottas (8th): “I’m happy to be back in Suzuka on my favorite track. I like flying here, even in the rain. All in all we had a good day.
If we talk about the behavior of the car, it was excellent. In the past we had some problems on a wet track, but today everything worked as it should. It’s not easy to warm up the tires on this track, but we managed, which is positive. In addition, we evaluated the new front wing and it performed as expected.”
Guanyu Zhou (10th): “Today the asphalt was quite slippery. The track is not the easiest to fly, but I enjoyed my first day in Suzuka. As I said, it was slippery, in some places real rivers crossed the race surface, which made it difficult to work, but the car showed itself perfectly.
I haven’t tried the new front wing yet because of the weather – today we didn’t want to risk it, but I can evaluate it tomorrow. I hope the new items will enable the team to take a step forward.”
