Verstappen escaped punishment for Norris incident in qualifying and starts from pole at Japanese Grand Prix

Pilot “Red Bull” Max Verstappen retain pole position at Sunday’s Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix after stewards’ decision, reports sky sports .

The Dutchman was booked for an incident with Lando Norris in qualifying and avoided a penalty.

Verstappen, faced with problems on his car, in the third qualifying segment prevented McLaren driver Norris. The Briton had to drive around Verstappen’s car on the grass to avoid crashing into it.

Verstappen was the best in qualifying with a score of 1 minute 29.304 seconds.

The final decision, which was released after the race director’s report, explanations from the drivers and team representatives, said that insufficient tire temperature caused Verstappen to temporarily lose control of the car and that she had been driven counter-clockwise.

Norris said it was an unfortunate incident, but the responsibility for driving the car lies with the driver.

“With regard to the penalty, all previous such violations have resulted in a warning, so in this case a similar penalty is imposed,” the ruling reads.

This is Verstappen’s first caution of the season, starting from race pole. The race is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. (Moscow time) on October 9.
