Max Verstappen won qualifying at Suzuka, his teammate Sergio Perez was only fourth, but still very satisfied…
Max Verstappen (1st): “It’s great to attack in Suzuka with little fuel – in the first sectors they seem to come alive. I’m very happy to be on pole, very happy to be back in Japan.
On the last fast lap I lost part of the air duct on the curb so I couldn’t add, but the first lap was enough for pole position. I wonder what the weather will be like tomorrow. Rain is possible, but our car is fast in all conditions.
I’m not thinking about the championship title yet, I’m just moving forward day by day. Most importantly, the car is competitive. Everything worked out in qualifying, we’ll see how everything goes in the race.”
Sergio Perez (4th): “Not my best qualifying, but tomorrow I will do my best. It doesn’t change my life much when I’m third or fourth, the important thing is the car is fast and allows you to attack. I’m confident I’ll be fast in the race, so I’m looking forward to the start.
Now we don’t know what the weather will be like tomorrow – here it changes quickly. Rain can fall at any time during the race or start earlier. Strategy will come into play, it will be great if I can get ahead of Ferrari at the start.”
