Following news of McLaren’s resignation after the end of the season, Daniel Ricciardo spoke more than once about his desire to keep performing, but there were fewer and fewer vacancies and two more were filled today. Following this news, the Australian admitted he would not be driving Formula 1 in 2023, but hopes to return in the future.
Daniel Ricciardo: “I was aware of the transition situation at Gasly, I knew they were negotiating and Alpine wanted to get him, so today’s news didn’t surprise me. We have tried to find options, but the reality is that I will not be in Formula 1 next year and now I am focused on finding options for 2024.
My plan is still to continue racing in Formula 1. Next year I’m taking a sabbatical.
I don’t know if I will compete in other races until I think about it. I am still fully focused on Formula 1, I think a little free time will do me good – and I will use it to my advantage instead of racing elsewhere.
