The stewards of the Japanese Grand Prix officially warned Max Verstappen about the incident in qualifying, when he and Lando Norris almost got into a collision.
At the time of the incident, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris were in the pit lap and preparing for a quick attempt. Max braked in the third sector of the track to let Carlos Sainz do his thing. At this point, Norris, who was behind Lando, decided to accelerate. Leaving Turn 130R, Verstappen’s car veered sharply towards Norris and the McLaren driver had to leave the track with his left wheels to avoid a collision.
Max Verstappen explained to the stewards that he briefly lost control of the car due to cold tires. In turn, Lando agreed that what had happened was an unfortunate coincidence. The stewards listened to the drivers and reminded that the driver must maintain control of the car at all times.
As a result, Verstappen received his first race warning of the season and retained his first place at the start of Sunday’s race in Japan. Five warnings in a season lead to the loss of ten places at the start. Four of them must “race”, ie receive for breaking the rules for driving a ship.
