Max Verstappen is happy with pole at Suzuka, but he also had to explain the dangerous incident with Lando Norris during the closing session.
Max Verstappen: “It’s great to drive on this track, especially in qualifying mode, when the car’s tank is almost empty. In the first sector, these cars seem to come to life! I’m very happy to have won pole position, but overall I’m very happy to have returned to Suzuka.
On the last run part of the rear brake channel fell off my car so I couldn’t improve the result, but at least the first lap was pretty good.
As for the Lando incident, I was driving quite slow at the time and I wanted to accelerate, but the tires were quite cold so the car started spinning and the moment was very dangerous. It was then that Lando tried to overtake me, so he had to avoid my car, but luckily there were no consequences.
I wonder what the weather will be like tomorrow. Some say it will be dry, others say it will rain. We’ll just have to wait until Sunday and see what happens. But I’m sure we have a good car, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”
