Alex Albon was one of the first to retire but it appeared that not due to an accident but due to a technical problem the Williams driver admitted that this had been preceded by contact with one of the rivals.
Alex Albon: “There was a problem with the hydraulics, but before that, frankly, there was contact with another car – I was hit from the side. But we have to start from something else: I don’t understand at all why it was necessary to start in such circumstances?
At best, I saw something ten meters in front of me. We can say it was like a pinball machine, the racers went right, then left – simply because they didn’t know where the edges of the track were. Personally I didn’t see them at all and in this situation I hit another car. It’s a shame, but that’s how it happened.
Racing in such conditions is very dangerous and the departure of Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari from the track confirms this. But of course everyone wants the race to take place…
As for the delivery with the tractor on track, when the peloton was behind the safety car, I don’t even want to talk about the possible consequences. Together with all the drivers we have already discussed this topic in Singapore, I think Sebastian Vettel brought it up during the general briefing of the drivers.
This is all very, very dangerous and I’m sure the FIA will look into this situation leading up to the next race and figure out how this could have happened.”
