Pirelli’s racing division head Mario Isola summed up the rainy Japan Grand Prix which ended with a victorious double for Red Bull Racing.
Mario Isola: “We congratulate Max Verstappen on his second title.
The Japanese Grand Prix was reduced to a 40-minute sprint due to rain and a sharp reduction in visibility. Track conditions became a determining factor in the choice of strategy and the resumption of the race before the safety car meant everyone was driving on wet tyres.
Soon after the restart it became clear that intermediate tires were the best option for such conditions. The tires showed impressive speed in unstable conditions. Controlling the wear on the front tires was decisive – in the closing laps of the race, the drivers had to demonstrate all their skills.
A huge thank you to the amazing Japanese fans who, after a long wait, saw an eventful race and once again showed their passion for Formula 1 by staying in the stands despite the weather. They deserve our love and support.”
