In 2026, Porsche and Audi should become suppliers of power plants for Formula 1. The companies have not officially confirmed which teams they plan to work with, but Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner called his team’s possible alliance with Porsche “logical”. †
Christian Horner: “It is great that the parent company of Porsche and Audi has announced its intention to participate in Formula 1. As far as we are concerned, we have just started developing the power plant for 2026, so it would make sense to all possible options for cooperation.
However, it’s too early to talk about anything specific. As soon as we have news on this subject, we will report it to the press.”
Commenting on the prospect of an eleventh team in Formula 1, Horner emphasized that existing teams would resist if this led to a reduction in prize money: “Money will be a major determinant. If the promoters want to see more teams at the start, they will likely have to adjust the amount of prize money as it would be unfair to expect current teams to pay indirectly for new championship entrants.
It’s great to see interest in Formula 1 and a team like Andretti would be an interesting addition, but for that F1 owners Liberty Media need to rethink the business model.”
