Ralf Schumacher praised Max, his teammate and Vettel

After the results of yesterday’s Japanese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has become world champion for the second time. Ralf Schumacher, a former Formula 1 driver and now an expert on Sky Deutschland, analyzed Sunday’s events and highlighted several key points that deserve attention.

Ralf Schumacher: “First of all, this is the counter-attack that Max performed on Charles Leclerc in the first corner. Verstappen managed to hold onto the lead, after which he started to expand the lead. In such circumstances, when a veil of water hung over the track, he was in the most favorable situation.

But we must not forget the role of his team-mate, Sergio Perez, thanks to whom he eventually became champion: Sergio attacked Leclerc in the last corner and after this episode the Ferrari driver was fined. If Max won the title on the last lap last year, it’s usually in the last corner now.”

This is how Ralph commented on the strange situation after the finish of the race, related to the number of points, as neither Max nor his team were certain at first that the Dutchman would become world champion: “We all know how to read the rules, but it seems that even the brightest minds in Red Bull Racing didn’t see some of the nuances there. Obviously there was a small dot in the rules, which changes the whole scoring system when the race is restarted.

Schumacher also praised Sebastian Vettel’s tactics, which saw the Aston Martin driver finish sixth, just 0.011 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso: “The rivals also had the opportunity to switch to intermediate tires early on. Sebastian did everything very correctly, after which he showed excellent speed.
