Japanese Grand Prix stewards fined driver “Alpha Tauri” Pierre Gasly 20 seconds for speeding in a race under the red flag regime, according to the press service of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The race, which took place in adverse weather conditions, was suspended on the third lap. As noted, the speed of the car exited in red flag mode repeatedly exceeded 200 km / h and once reached 251 km / h. The pilot, in his explanation, noted that he was aware that there might be flagmen or obstacles on the runway, and also that he was traveling too fast.
At the same time, it was taken into account that Gasly’s speed was below the maximum allowed in these conditions, and also that he was shocked by the tractor he saw on the track.
During the race, Gasly strongly criticized the appearance of a tow truck on the track, noting that it posed a risk to the lives of the drivers. The Frenchman took 17th place in the race, which resumed two hours later, beating Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who took the championship title.
