The organizers of the W Series Women’s Championship confirmed today that the season will not go ahead and that the last three races, scheduled to take place in October in the US and Mexico, have been canceled.
During the race weekend in Singapore, it was reported that despite the contract already signed, the series had not received the necessary funding, leaving the three remaining races of the season in doubt. After that, it was decided to give full attention to the process of collecting the budget, which would ensure the long-term future of the W Series and financial stability. Among other things, it was decided to save money by refusing to hold races in Austin and Mexico City.
The premature end of the season means Jenner Racing’s Jamie Chadwick will be crowned W Series champion for the third time.
While the season will not be renewed, the series received massive support after the financial troubles were announced, so the process of collecting the budget continues and the future promises to be brighter.
Katherine Bond MiuraSeries Executive Director: “It is with deep sadness that we announce that the final three races of the season will not take place in Austin and Mexico City.
We are always working hard to secure stable funding for the series as our business develops. But due to an unforeseen set of circumstances beyond our control, we did not receive the money stipulated in the contract. Therefore, they had to make a difficult decision to end the season. Our apologies to the fans who will not see our races again this year.
We tried to raise the necessary funds to bring the season to a successful end, but unfortunately it turned out not to be possible quickly. While we are all deeply disappointed, we remain positive and hope that the W Series has a future.
Statistics confirm that women’s sports get far less money than men, and the W Series is no exception. But we are incredibly grateful for the help and support we have received over the past few weeks, it has accelerated the fundraising process, allowing us to prepare optimistically for 2023.
It is too early to make an official statement on this, but the negotiations are ongoing, they are positive and all parties involved share our passion to continue and believe in our mission.”
