We wrote that, due to financial difficulties, the organizers of the women’s W Series have canceled the last two stages, which were intended as support races for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in the US and Mexico. At the same time, there is no mention of a conclusion of the series yet.
Katherine Bond Miur, executive director of the series, said she plans to have the old approach to contestants performing for free next year.
Katherine Bond Miur, Series Executive Director: “Given the current situation, we want to maintain the philosophy of the W Series and continue to pay the costs of all participants. We have always said that we are not looking for the richest, but for the best riders. So it will continue.
Most W Series entrants are extremely difficult to find sponsors. Now it’s incredibly hard for men to find money, and it’s even harder for women. The only sport in which there is any kind of parity is tennis. But I believe that the interest in women’s sports will grow exponentially in the future.”
