During the race weekend in Japan, the AlphaTauri team announced the contract of Nick de Vries, who will replace Pierre Gasly in 2023. According to Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, the Dutch driver is expected to take on the role of team leader.
“Yuki Tsunoda is still young and has no relevant experience, so Nick has to lead the team,” Marco said in Suzuka. “Let’s see what happens next year in practice, but given Nick’s experience and personal qualities, he should become the leader of the team.”
Helmut Marko commented on the current situation in Red Bull Racing. With Max Verstappen guaranteed the title, the team will focus on helping his teammate Sergio Perez finish second at the end of the season.
“The team has won six individual titles, but our riders have never achieved first or second place at the end of the season,” continues Marco. “I’m sure Max can bring the number of wins this season to thirteen or even fourteen, but more important for us is that Perez takes second place.”
