The controversy after the Japanese GP has baffled everyone, including the sports directors of the teams, who know the rules better than by heart. However, the final result was not announced until the FIA announced that after 28 laps – just over 50% of the planned distance – the riders would receive 100% of the points.
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto would like clarification from the FIA as to why the result was calculated this way and not otherwise…
Mattia Binotto: “To be honest, I don’t know why. We need to consult with our sports director, but for the future this point would be worth clarifying.
To be honest, we were confused. According to our calculations, it turned out that the battle for the title continues, but then the FIA clarified the number of points and everything became clear. Max is a world champion, there is no doubt about that.”
