Red Bull Racing continues negotiations with FIA

At the beginning of the week, the FIA released the results of a financial audit, which showed that Red Bull Racing made a “minor” cost overrun. An immediate response from the team, the gist of which was that Milton Keynes disagreed with the audit’s conclusions and intended to defend their position.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport adviser, said the team is continuing negotiations with the FIA because he believes the federation is interpreting the financial regulations differently than Red Bull. For example, how to take into account the salaries of employees in the event of illness.

Helmut Marko: “I don’t want to talk too much about this topic, but we believe that we have not violated the budget constraints. Talks with the FIA are underway – let’s see what happens.

Like I said, we don’t know exactly what we violated. However, rumors that Max Verstappen could lose the 2021 title are complete nonsense. Past examples show that the FIA was very lenient in sanctioning even very serious rule violations.

Speaking of the leniency of the penalty, Helmut Marko most likely had in mind the story that unfolded in late 2019, when the FIA found something in the Ferrari powerhouse that could break the regulations, but the parties came to certain agreements, and the FIA decided not to move things forward.
