David Schumacher, son of former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher and nephew of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, suffered a serious back injury during the final of the DTM season in Hockenheim.
The German driver had an accident, after which he was taken to a hospital in Ludwigshafen, 30 kilometers from the track. The examination revealed no serious injuries, except for a few bruises, and David was allowed to go home. However, the rider did not let go of the pain and again turned to the doctors, who revealed a fracture of the lumbar vertebra after an MRI.
Ralf Schumacher said his son will not require surgery, but recovery from injury will take more than a month.
“After returning home, David continued to complain of back pain,” Ralph told the dpa news agency. – We decided to go to the hospital in Salzburg and do an MRI, which showed a fracture of the lumbar vertebra. According to the treating doctors, David needs about six weeks to recover.”
