After finishing the race in Miami, Mattia Binotto said Ferrari engineers are preparing updates to the car for the Spanish Grand Prix. At the same time, the head of the Scuderia hoped that rivals from Red Bull Racing would soon stop upgrading the RB18 as the budget for revision had been exhausted.
However, Helmut Marko, Red Bull motorsport adviser, said the team has prepared new items for the Barcelona race that will reduce the weight of the car, bringing it closer to the minimum allowed level.
“In Barcelona we will bring innovations that will allow us to finally reach the optimum weight of the car,” says Helmut Marko. – Until now, the weight of the car was significantly higher than the minimum permitted 798 kg.
Ferrari and I are on an equal footing. In the future, the advantage will be given to those who can get the most out of their car on a particular track. We continue to look forward to the battle and have full confidence in the FIA to make sure everything runs within the rules.”
