At the beginning of the week, the FIA released the results of a financial audit, which showed that Red Bull Racing made a “minor” cost overrun.
The federation has not yet announced what punishment the Milton Keynes team faces, but Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has warned his team will consider exceeding budget limits if the penalty for Red Bull Racing is insignificant.
“If Red Bull exceeds the budget by two million and the fine for them will be five times the excess, then this is unfair as it punishes the right to commit offenses by paying a fine,” Italy’s Corriere dello Sport is quoted as saying Toto Wolff. “We’ve already talked about this and if the penalty really turns out to be like that, then Mercedes will be ready to go over budget and pay the associated fines to add and get back to the top.”
