Dane Ronnie Søgård Andersen has won the Charlie Whiting Award, a former Formula 1 race director who died suddenly in March 2019 from an Australian injury.
The FIA has created a special award for which race directors or track secretaries from different countries can apply – their candidacy is determined by national sports organizations and then the candidates are selected by the FIA.
Andersen raced in karting and Formula Ford, working as a mechanic, race engineer and team manager. He has worked his way up from marshal and controller to track secretary and recently made his debut as race director in the Super GT Denmark series.
Award for the winner – participating in a training program under the wing of experienced race directors, attending FIA events for 12 months – and developing their skills,
Andersen was announced as the 2022 laureate of the virtual seminar of race directors with more than 200 officials working in various FIA competitions around the world. The award was presented via video conference by Robert Reed, FIA’s Deputy President for Sport.
