Zach Brown: Monaco contract must be adjusted

The Monaco Grand Prix contract expires in 2022. Negotiations for an extension are already underway, but there are opinions among Formula 1 participants that the podium organizers need to make changes to meet modern trends .

A similar view is shared by McLaren head Zack Brown, who believes the contract with the organizers of the Monaco race should be revised in line with modern commercial realities.

“I think there are a lot of great stages on the Formula 1 calendar,” Brown told Racingnews365. – Singapore, Miami, Silverstone are strong brands, but the execution of these phases is different as solutions that work in the US work differently in the UK, Singapore and so on.

It’s great that we have 23 fantastic Grands Prix. Of these, 18 are spectacular, the other five still need work. Monaco is certainly the jewel in the crown as it has hosted racing for so many years. The organizers of the stages have entered into a very profitable commercial agreement, but in Formula 1, understanding and respecting their value and contribution to our sport, they are trying to adapt the cooperation with them to the modern commercial reality.

Zach Brown added that due to the expansion of the Formula 1 calendar, some traditional stages may switch to a rotational principle and host races every two years: “Stefano Domenicali said there is a demand for 30 Grands Prix, but it is Obviously we won’t be able to run that many races.

I think we have already reached the maximum number of stages per season. If they want to come to new countries in Formula 1, then the possibility of a rotation principle should be considered. We can run from 20 to 23 Grand Prix in 20 different countries, with an additional 16-17 stages being requested so that about 10 races can be held every two years. The Olympics and the World Cup take place every four years – and nothing.

I believe the principle of “once every two years” will help keep interest in some Grand Prix at a certain level and help us open up new markets. There is no other option as we are already working at the peak of our capabilities.”
