Oscar Piastri will replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren next season. Team leader Zac Brown said he would not pressure the young driver and would give Oscar time to get comfortable in Formula 1.
Zach Brown: “Oscar’s track record speaks for itself, but it’s important to understand that he is a rookie who has raced for me all season. He will be exactly the same debutant as anyone with some “rust” due to the fact that he missed a year. However, he has an enormous talent, but we have to give him time.
We shouldn’t put too much pressure on Oscar, don’t compare him to Daniel and stuff like that. We have to support him and help him settle in Formula 1.
When a driver comes to McLaren, they expect a lot from him, including Oscar, given the situation with Daniel and Alpine. I have no doubt that the fans and the press will quickly jump to conclusions, but the team will give him, like any debutant, time to get used to it.
