Conditions for winning Red Bull Racing in the Constructors’ Championship

At the last Japanese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen won the 2022 world title ahead of schedule. The fate of the Constructors’ Championship has actually been decided – it’s only a matter of time before Ferrari lose its mathematical chances of winning first place at the end of the season against Red Bull Racing.

There is a good chance that the Milton Keynes team will secure an early win in the Constructors’ Championship already in the next leg. Now Red Bull Racing is 165 points ahead of Ferrari, and to win the US Constructors’ Championship, the advantage over the Scuderia after finishing the race in Austin must be at least 147 points.

If the Ferrari drivers in Austin win a double and earn an extra point for the best lap, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will need to earn 26 points to guarantee Red Bull Racing’s victory in the Constructors’ Championship. It is enough for Verstappen and Perez to finish third and fourth.

Given Max Verstappen’s dominance in the second half of the season, it is unlikely that Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz can achieve a winning double. Much more likely Max will get his thirteenth win in Austin. This result, along with the best lap, will be enough to win the Constructors’ Championship.

If Verstappen and Perez finish ahead of the Ferrari drivers in Austin, that also guarantees Red Bull Racing a championship win.
