The Haas F1 team has not yet named who teammate Kevin Magnussen will be in 2023, with Niko Hulkenberg being considered one of the possible candidates.
He says he has started training more intensively and this can be seen as indirect confirmation that the Aston Martin reserve driver is preparing for a return to Formula 1.
As Aston Martin’s third driver, Nico didn’t pay as much attention to training as he did during his championship years, but now he’s determined to work on his fitness – just in case.
He recently took part in the tests of the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, held in Silverstone, while speaking with British TV presenter Lissy McIntosh, who was preparing another program for her YouTube channel.
“Who knows, maybe in 2023 or in the future there will be an opportunity to return to Formula 1. So recently I increased the intensity of training again,” Nico said. – Now I travel less around the world, because I don’t go to all the races. But I usually come to those phases of the championship where most of the business, commercial and marketing activities are, where there are a lot of sponsor meetings, including next weekend I will be in Austin for the US Grand Prix.
Of course, if you don’t have to drive a car, the pressure is much less, but at the same time, of course, I miss participating in races, because I don’t go to the starting grid, I don’t feel this elation and drive. Because my training schedule wasn’t as intense as it was in the years when I started my career and when I raced, I decided to start exercising more actively.
It is worth recalling that the Haas F1 team in Austin plans to hold a press conference, which was announced in advance, but it is not yet clear what it will be devoted to: the announcement of the lineup for 2023 or the introduction of a new sponsor.
The last time Nico Hulkenberg was at the start of the Grand Prix at the beginning of this season, when he replaced the ailing Sebastian Vettel on the stages in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
