Kevin Magnussen will compete in the 12 Hours of the Gulf race, and in the same crew with his father, Jan Magnussen, who once raced in Formula 1 and continued his career in endurance racing until recently.
They will drive the Ferrari 488 GT3 of the MDK Motorsports team, which will be technically supported by the factory AF Corse. The team is owned by American businessman Mark Kwamme – in his spare time he is seriously interested in car racing and recently even won the Porsche Carrera Notrh America Cup.
The 12 Hours of the Gulf is a traditional competition that has been held since 2012 and will be held this year in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina circuit. They are attended not only by racers from the countries of the Persian Gulf, but also by representatives of other regions of the planet. This season, the race is also the final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge series.
Team owner Mark Kvamme won the previous Gulf 12 Hours in the AM class last winter and, after inviting Kevin and his father to be his teammates, he expects to repeat the success.
Kevin Magnussen “I met Mark in the days of the Miami Grand Prix and somehow the idea of riding together in Abu Dhabi was born. We called my father and our team was formed.
Passionate people, professional racers, work at MDK Motorsports, and I enjoy working with them. I want to see what we can achieve together. And of course I’m very grateful to have another chance to compete with my father – I hope we can even compete for the win.
The Abu Dhabi 12-hour race kicks off on December 11 and 38 GT3 crews have already signed up to take part – these are Audi, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.
