Sergio Perez almost retired in Miami due to problems with one of the engine sensors. It is not the first time that Red Bull Racing has faced technical problems this season, but team boss Christian Horner assures that the problems will be solved through cooperation with Honda.
“Sergio’s car had problems with a sensor in one of the cylinders, so he lost a lot of time,” Racingnews365 quoted Horner as saying. “Our technicians were able to switch to other sensors, but this caused the power plant to lose about 20 kilowatts of power. Even with the advantage of the new tyres, Sergio lost half a second per lap due to the delay on the straights. Without this problem he could have finished second.
Sergio was about to retire, but we were able to fix the problem and now we will work closely with Honda to understand the cause and prevent this from happening again in the future.
Do we think the reliability of the car is important? I don’t think the car is unreliable. Yes, in the pre-season testing and in the first races we had certain issues that upset us, but we are working closely with Honda. They give us a lot of support and I am sure that all problems will be solved.”
