In the previous two events, neither Mercedes drivers managed to reach the podium, their best result being 5th place from Lewis Hamilton, who took the seven-time world champion in Japan. But for the US Grand Prix this season, the team is preparing the latest technical innovations in hopes of closing the gap with the leaders.
Toto Wolff, team principal Mercedes: “The races in Singapore and Japan, separated by an interval of one week, were not successful for our team. To fully demonstrate the car’s speed capabilities, it was necessary to be on a clear track, but we didn’t manage to do that.
We want to finish the season with confidence and the results of the last two races have only added to the determination to achieve this. Although training time is limited, we must make the most of it to improve our performance this season and get as much information as possible to use as we prepare for 2023. These two tasks are inextricably linked.
In Austin we bring the latest novelties this year. We should not expect dramatic changes, but we hope they will bring them one step closer to the leaders.
Austin is a great city and we all love going there. The track at the Circuit of the Americas is challenging and the races there are often very interesting, so we’re happy to be there again. I hope we can put on a great show for the fans this year.”
