Colton Herta fit at McLaren in June

In March McLaren announced the signing of Colton Herta to see last year’s current IndyCar driver test MCL35M. The British team has not yet announced a test date, but Colton himself said he would come to the McLaren base in Woking in June to fit the seat and work on the simulator.

Colton Herta: “I don’t know if I can announce the date when I will run the tests. I may be in trouble, so I’d better shut up, but the tests will definitely happen this year. I can say that I will be coming to Woking in June to fit the seat and work on the simulator. I’m looking forward to it because the last time I was at the McLaren base in 2019 I spent a day in the simulator. I didn’t get a good look at the base then, but I hope to get a sightseeing tour this time.

I know that everything in the team is kept secret, but I hope I can see some details, I will take the first step. Then come the tests – just fantastic. I look forward to them.

You know, I want to move to Formula 1 at some stage in my career. Of course, preparation time is needed, so it is very important to work out the tests properly. Hopefully the tests will open doors for me. Now I have no guarantees, no race contract, but events can develop according to different scenarios.

Even if nothing happens with McLaren, I hope people will pay attention to me. Maybe I’ll get a chance if I show a high enough speed.

I have serious ambitions. I want to race a lot before I retire and Formula 1 is high on my wish list. I wanted to get into IndyCar and race in the Indy 500 and I did. Now I want to win in Indianapolis. But there are other racing series that I want to participate in, and Formula 1 is on my wish list above many others.”
