Max Verstappen has already secured the 2022 world title, but there are still four races to go before the end of the season in which the Red Bull Racing driver can break multiple records.
Most wins in a season
Max Verstappen has already had 12 wins in the season and by this indicator he is only one win behind the all-time record holders – Michael Schumacher (2004) and Sebastian Vettel (2013). Verstappen can bring the number of wins in the season to 16.
Most points in a season
Lewis Hamilton has the record for most points earned in one season with 413. Verstappen currently has 366 points, but if he wins the remaining four races of the best lap and the sprint in Brazil, he will earn 112 points. So potentially Verstappen could finish the season with 478 points and surpass Lewis’s 2019 record.
Biggest difference between first and second place in the individual standings
In 2013, Sebastian Vettel set the record for the biggest difference between first and second place in the individual standings, ahead of Fernando Alonso with 155 points. Max Verstappen can surpass Sebastian’s performance – four races before the end of the season, his lead over closest pursuer Sergio Perez is 113 points.
Most Grand Slams in a season
Max Verstappen has only had two Grand Slams in his career – starting from pole, best lap, victory and leadership from start to finish. Max won one at Imola in 2022, and if he wins two more, he will match the number of Grand Slams in the season with Alberto Ascari (1952), Jim Clark (1963 and 1965), Nigel Mansell (1992) and Lewis Hamilton (2017).
Three Grand Slams by Max Verstappen and a new record in the remaining four races seem unlikely, but nothing is impossible with the Red Bull RB18.
Most podium places in a season
In 2021 Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton set a new record for most podium finishes in a season – 18. If Verstappen finishes in the top three in all remaining four races, he will repeat last year’s feat.
Records Max won’t break in 2022
However, there are also records that Max Verstappen will not be able to surpass this season. One of them is the number of wins in a row. In 2013, Sebastian Vettel climbed to the top of the podium nine times in a row. In 2022, Max was able to improve on this performance, but after five wins in a row, he finished seventh in Singapore, breaking the successful streak.
Max will not break the record for the number of poles in a season. This year he won first place at the start five times and Sebastian Vettel set a record in 2011 – 15 poles.
