Alpine Youth Academy member Jack Duhan will drive a Formula 1 car for the first time during a test in Qatar on Sunday 15 May.
Alpine is conducting a three-day test this week at the Losail Circuit, which hosted last year’s Qatar Grand Prix. Last year’s car was driven on Wednesday and Thursday by reserve driver Oscar Piastri and after a two-day break, the team will continue testing with Duane.
Jack Duane: “I am very happy to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time. This is the moment I have strived for since I started karting and I know how much of a privilege it is to be able to do. I am grateful to Alpine and will do my best to get the best out of the tests.
I’ve come to private tests before as a bystander and worked on the team simulator at Enstone, so I’m ready for this challenge. I get to work, try to have fun and learn a lot with the team.”
Oscar Piastric: “I spent two productive days of testing where I continued to master the A521. It was very hot both days, but this is an excellent physical workout. The track hadn’t been used much lately so the traction level on the tarmac was constantly changing and the sand and wind made it even more difficult. It was not easy, but it is important to learn to fly in different conditions.
I look forward to returning to the team for the Barcelona and Monaco stages and then the next private test at Spielberg in June.”
