FIA will exceptionally allow F1 drivers to resume racing after leaving the car

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) World Council for Motorsport has made changes and clarifications to the rules of Formula 1, according to RacingNews365 .

From 2023, Formula 1 cars will receive larger mirrors to eliminate blind spots and improve visibility, along with a number of other safety enhancements.

In addition, changes have been made to the sporting regulations of Formula 1 – the procedure for determining positions on the starting grid after the application of penalties for several drivers has been clarified.

Article 28.3 of the Sporting Regulations no longer obliges a rider to go backwards if he has received a 15-place penalty.

The regulations now state that if a driver “has a penalty of more than 15 starting grid positions or is required to start at the end of the grid, he will start behind any other classified driver”.

All riders who receive a penalty of 15 places or less will line up on a grid based on their performance in qualifying. If two riders are in the same position after a penalty, the fastest (based on their qualifying time) advances one place.

If a driver has left the car, even temporarily, that car will now be considered removed from the session, with the exception of suspension from participation in the sprint or race.

If the driver left the car during the suspension of the race or the sprint session, he can return “provided that the car was not abandoned due to a mechanical problem, damage or in the purpose of gaining an advantage”.
