Bottas: I had to adjust the expectation level

This season Valtteri Bottas does not claim to win, although he won ten races during his long association with Mercedes. But now he drives for Alfa Romeo, and the car built in Hinwil does not count on high results, except in some special circumstances.

However, Valtteri is pleased with how his partnership with the Swiss team is shaping up, where he had to take on the role of leader.

“I worked really well with this team,” Bottas said ahead of the weekend in Austin. “From the beginning, I respected her and appreciated her achievements. For the first time in my career I am the most experienced rider on the team, this implies a higher level of responsibility and I have a say in discussing certain things.

Everything is very natural, because I am older than Guanyu Zhou, this is his debut season, he still has a lot to learn. A young partner asks a lot of questions and next to him I almost feel like a veteran, although I will stay in Formula 1 for a few more years.

I’ve had time to adjust to the new team and mentally prepare for a new period in my career, so everything is going better than I initially thought. Of course I had to adjust the goals and the level of expectations. But I’m quite happy because it’s nice to see how we’re progressing, how the car is picking up speed, and all of this motivates me. If we succeed in fulfilling the tasks before us in the future, that equates to a victory.”
