In 2020 Formula 1 introduced budget caps and since last year each team is not allowed to spend more than $145 million per season. However, the budgets of some teams, including Haas, remained below this figure. The head of the US team, Gunther Steiner, said that thanks to the signing of a sponsorship deal with MoneyGram, the Haas budget will grow to the maximum allowed values.
Günther Steiner: “Thanks to the closed deal, we will be able to reach the budget ceiling and be on an equal footing with everyone. Sure, top teams can spend more, but I’ve always said budget constraints in the medium and long term will solve the problem that not everyone is able to fight for the podium.
We want to take the next step forward and with a sponsorship deal we can compete for the podium in the coming years. I’m not saying it will happen next year because we had to recover from two really bad seasons. We keep adding, but it will take time.
Let’s be realistic – I won’t say we’re going to fight for wins, but Haas will take the next step forward and be able to fight rivals of the same level.
