Haas chief Gunther Steiner has already said in Austin that the decision on who will be Kevin Magnussen’s teammate next season will be made after the Mexican leg of the championship. At the FIA press conference, Kevin said the team was not interested in his opinion on the matter.
Kevin Magnussen «I have no influence on the decision about the composition of the team. This question does not apply to me at all. Speaking of Mika, he’s made real progress this year. Maybe the car wasn’t very suitable for him in the beginning, but gradually he found an approach, confidence increased and became a serious rival for me.
I think Mick deserves a place on the grid, but like I said, I don’t set the composition. I can only wish him the best.”
Regarding the Haas’ chances of earning points this weekend, Kevin said: “Our car is more suited to tracks that require a lot of downforce, and COTA is one such track. I hope we will be more competitive.
Lately, some teams have been ahead of us in terms of sheer speed on the track, so we can’t compete with them. In the Constructors’ Championship we have a very close fight with AlphaTauri, it is difficult for us to qualify for points, but there is no doubt that we will do our best this weekend.”
