Lewis Hamilton: I’m careful with my expectations

During the American Grand Prix, Mercedes brings the latest car updates of the season. Lewis Hamilton was cautious in Austin on Thursday about the team’s chances this Sunday, as the new items didn’t always work out as the engineers expected.

Lewis Hamilton: “Fans can expect me to give my best in Austin, as always. The team is working hard on new products, but I am careful with my expectations. There have been instances this year where we brought updates and thought they would let us play a few tenths, but things turned out differently on the track – we couldn’t fully exploit the potential of new products.

In general, the US Grand Prix has always been special to me. I really enjoy coming to the United States, and the Austin circuit is not only one of the best of the new generation, but in general on the calendar, because it is possible to drive with pleasure. In Austin, the interest of the fans is constantly growing because everything is done differently here. I believe that the interest in Formula 1 in the US will continue to grow because people here love sports and will love Formula 1.

At the start of the week, Lewis Hamilton visited Los Angeles and attended his team’s first game, the Denver Broncos, playing in the US NFL Championship. In Austin, Lewis shared his impressions of what he saw.

“I had an incredible experience watching my team play in an amazing arena,” said Hamilton. – It was interesting to follow the reaction of the fans to what is happening on the pitch. It was very different from motorsport, but the excitement of the crowd is exactly the same.

It was interesting for me to see the coach’s work with the team. The Broncos have a good defense, but our attack leaves a lot to be desired. In general, I’m more and more interested in American football – some athletes weigh less than 150 kg, and you definitely don’t want to get in their way!

Lewis commented on the results of the financial audit, which revealed a “minor” cost overrun by Red Bull Racing: “I think something needs to be done about this. Otherwise, if the FIA calmly handles violations, all teams are going to exceed their budget.

If everyone is going to spend millions more and get a light slap on the hands for it, it won’t have the best effect on sports. With this approach, no one will stick to the budget constraints.

I’m sure the FIA will make the right decisions. Of course I keep the benefit of the doubt and focus on doing my job the best I can. What’s done is done, but the FIA must be true to the values of the sport and the rules put in place to control budgets.

I think this whole story may confuse the fans, without whom the sport means nothing. I think we should stick to these values.”
