At the last round at Suzuka, Max Verstappen secured the title of champion in 2022. On Thursday, the Red Bull Racing driver in Austin expressed his confidence that he will fight for the title next season as his team continues to progress.
Max Verstappen: “Right after the finish, nobody in the team understood how many points I had earned. Of course I attacked in the last laps to show the best lap, but in the end I had to give up to cross the finish line safely. Anyway, no matter how many points were awarded, the moment I crossed the finish line I wasn’t a champion. I guaranteed the title after Charles Leclerc was fined.
I’m glad I won the title. It was a special year for me, there is a great atmosphere in the team throughout the season. We continue to grow and only get stronger – I think we can achieve something similar next season.”
Commenting on the results of the FIA’s financial audit, which showed that Red Bull Racing has incurred a “minor” cost overrun, Max said: “Nothing has been confirmed yet. Our team will solve this problem – we have clearly stated that we acted correctly, after all, this is not my responsibility, the team and the FIA will figure it out.
I think rivals’ complaints are related to us doing our job well and trying to slow us down in any way – that’s how the world of Formula 1 works. Everyone criticizes rivals as much as possible, but I see this not as a problem. We are focused on our work.”
