There are still four Grand Prix to go before the end of Sebastian Vettel’s career in Formula 1. The organizers of the stage in Austin promised to arrange a dignified farewell to the German and on Thursday he spoke enthusiastically about the American track.
Sebastian Vettel: “From the very first race, this Grand Prix has always been stylish. I think the fact is that the whole city has welcomed us very warmly. For the same reason, Formula 1 feels so comfortable in Melbourne or Montreal.
Formula 1 has become extremely popular in the US in recent years, but it’s not all about that. Austin is just different. Austin is an unusual city, not typically American, if at all possible in such a vast country. For ten years racing here has been a truly spectacular event.
Now it seems strange to me that after four races my career in Formula 1 is over. Recently I was sad in Suzuka when I realized that this is my last race in Japan. I can’t imagine how I will feel after the final stage in Abu Dhabi. As for the results, I don’t expect a miracle, but as always in Formula 1, I am still looking to the future with interest.
What are your fondest memories of Austin? Ten years ago I was supposed to win the first race at this track but lost too much time behind the circle – in the end Lewis was in the front. I still regret it.”
