Alfa Romeo performed quite successfully in the first half of the season, but only earned one point after the Canadian Grand Prix. At Austin, Valtteri Bottas said it was very important for Alfa Romeo to score points to maintain sixth place in the constructors’ championship.
Valtteri Bottas: “At the start of the season we were happy, we earned points, there was some stability, but when we finished outside the top ten I started missing those moments. It is important for the team to maintain sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship and for that we have to earn points.
Many of our problems have to do with reliability. Unfortunately, we were unable to drive long distances during winter testing, and it is important to evaluate the resource of many parts that are now failing.
But this experience taught us a lot, we took it into account when working on a new car, which has already started. We are still a small team, much smaller than some of our competitors, but this will not always be the case.
The team is growing, recruiting employees – in the coming years we will reach the same level as the rest. Therefore I am sure that next year or a year later I will have a great opportunity to fight in the group of the strongest.”
