Three Williams drivers were on track for Friday’s US Grand Prix practice – Alex Albon, Nicholas Latifi and Logan Sargent, who made his F1 debut in the official session of the weekend and replaced Latifi in the first practice session. The team noted that their car in Austin is too sensitive to gusts of wind.
Alex Albon (18th): “Friday’s only representative session went surprisingly well – in the first practice I set the thirteenth fastest time. However, there is no doubt that we need to find an opportunity to add something.
It was difficult for me because of the wind, and the forecast is that the wind will only get stronger over the weekend – this weather is not suitable for our car. In the evenings we continue to work to understand how we can add Saturday.”
Nicholas Latific (20th): “Probably the weirdest Friday I’ve ever been as a Formula 1 driver. I missed the first practice session for the first time, lost the car to Logan and in the second session we tested Pirelli tires. However, I managed to take a gamble and find a rhythm on the track.
Everything changes on Saturday when we return to this year’s tires. We will try to start the third practice well and maximize every lap.”
Logan Sargent (19th in first session): “My main goal during the training was to learn as much as possible – I feel like I learned a lot. Honestly, it didn’t go as I expected, but in a good way.
The behavior of the car is radically different from what I’m used to in Formula 2. The car is reactive in fast corners and effective under braking.
I believe I had a good start, although there is still a lot of potential to improve. However, I’m happy with how it went. We would like to say a huge thank you to Williams and Dorilton Motor Sports for their support and the opportunity.”
