Max Verstappen set the seventh fastest time in the second practice session of the US Grand Prix, in which he tested prototype tires for 2023. The Red Bull Racing driver is pleased with the car’s speed on a fast lap, but says he has yet to improve the distance of the race. His teammate Sergio Perez showed the tenth result.
Max Verstappen (7th): “The first training went pretty well. We experimented with the car in a number of ways and were pleased with the result. In the first session we did our best, because in the second practice we had to test the 2023 tires.
I’ve been working with a C1 setup that doesn’t suit the track very well. It was difficult to get to grips with, but at least we went through the entire test program. When we talk about Saturday, the speed in the long run raises questions, as we couldn’t judge it in the second practice.
On Thursday I walked around the track to look for the bumps in those sections where the asphalt had shifted. Plus, the walk came in handy after all the steaks I ate.”
Sergio Perez (10th): “We gathered a lot of information in the first practice, so I hope we won’t be too disturbed on Saturday by the fact that the second session was supposed to be devoted to tire testing. I hope we do everything right and have a good qualification.
Since I will lose positions at the start, it is important to qualify well to start as high as possible. I think the track suits our car and we will have a high pace this weekend. However, some work still needs to be done on the balance in fast corners, to reduce degradation and to bring all the components together. ”
