Venturi Racing driver Edoardo Mortara has won his first pole position and will start today’s Formula E race in Berlin from the best position. In addition, he has earned three extra points for this achievement.
It seemed that the Swiss could not beat his rivals in the decisive attempt in the qualifying final, as he made a mistake in the 1st corner of the track, built at the airport of the old Berlin Templehof airport, but Edoardo drove very fast the last sector of the circle, allowing him to win back and defeat Alex Sims, the Mahindra racer.
The duo of DS Teecheetah, António Felix da Costa and Jean-Eric Vergne will start Saturday’s race from the second row, and Andre Lotterer and Pascal Wehrlein, two representatives of the Porsche works team, from the third row.
During qualifying, a curious episode occurred: in the races of the semi-finals, Jean-Eric Vergne showed exactly the same time as Sims, but the Briton went to the final, because there is a rule that whoever drove his qualifying lap first gets the advantage.
Vergne, who occupies the second line in the personal standings of the series and lost the chance to compete for pole position, was very unhappy about this: “I am very upset, this is the most stupid line I have ever seen in my life seen. In the previous qualifier phase I was faster than Sims but he will start for me although he was slower before that I think this rule should be changed.
