Ralf Schumacher advises Steiner to be self-critical

Günter Steiner, after Friday’s first practice in Austin, when Antonio Giovinazzi crashed the car after a few laps, in an interview with Sky Sports commented on the future of Haas F1, stating the team’s priority as follows: “We can’t constantly make mistakes that throw us back. That way we will never make real progress. First of all, we have to achieve stability.”

These words from the head of the American team caused some dismay from Ralf Schumacher, a former Formula 1 racer and uncle of Mick Schumacher, who is finishing his second season with Haas.

“I don’t know what Steiner means when he talks about stability – it refers to the riders or the team as a whole,” Ralf reasoned about Sky Deutschland. I don’t understand what he’s talking about. Maybe he should listen to his own interviews.

The Haas riders are doing well and I think the team will do well if the lineup stays the same. And if you’re so critical of your riders, maybe add some self-criticism to that.

Perhaps it is worth remembering that the team is far from ideal in terms of tactics, that it makes mistakes. It’s not Netflix, it’s Formula 1.”

Ralf Schumacher means that Günther Steiner was one of the characters in the documentary series Drive to Survive, produced by Netflix and gaining popularity worldwide. Even the Haas F1 press service noted that thanks to this series, the team leader gained such popularity and autographs are often taken from him in the paddock.

Steiner in this series does not try to appear better than he really is, behaves very expressively in the frame, constantly swears at the riders, without being embarrassed when choosing expressions. It must be assumed that such a character is attractive to the audience in its own way, and Steiner himself says that he is already accustomed to his popularity.
