This weekend, Monte Carlo will host the 13th Monaco Historic Grand Prix, with nearly two hundred cars divided into eight categories, all competing on the legendary circuit that runs through the streets of the Mediterranean Principality.
According to the French press, the 2022 race is unofficially dedicated to the memory of Colin Champaign – at the end of December it will be 40 years since the founder of Lotus and the Formula 1 team of the same name, which once won the Constructors’ Championship seven times.
The chance to see so many historic vehicles at once only comes a few times a year for motorsport fans, as now the engines of unique race cars roar Lotus, Tyrrell, Brabham, Alfa Romeo, Fittipaldi, March in Monaco, not to mention Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Williams.
The day before, the grand opening of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, announced personally by Prince Albert II, took place this morning, with qualifying taking place this morning. The list of pole position winners in different categories gives an idea of which cars were involved.
Obviously, the historic Grand Prix attracts the attention of many racers of different generations – someone is participating in it, someone is just communicating with colleagues. This year, reigning world champion Max Verstappen is one of the special guests of the competition.
Firstly, the Red Bull Racing driver lives in Monaco and just couldn’t miss such a bright event. Secondly, Fritz van Eerd, a former racing driver and now the head of the Dutch company Jumbo, Max’s personal sponsor, takes part in the competition on cars of two categories.
