Athletistic will broadcast a live online text broadcast: Formula 1. United States Grand Prix. Qualification. Direct
F1 returns to Texas for the United States Grand Prix. Max Verstappen and Red Bull are both aiming to make history at one of F1’s top circuits. Although Max has already won the Drivers’ Championship, there is still plenty to watch this weekend.
At the last race in Japan, Verstappen officially won his second championship title in a sodden Suzuka. He beat Pérez by almost 30 seconds and after some confusion with the number of points awarded after the race, he became the 2022 champion.
This weekend will be the first race Verstappen has ever entered as champion, but don’t expect the Dutchman to change his approach. Max has 12 wins so far and also has 14 podiums in 2022 and is determined to defend his US Grand Prix crown. If he does, he will tie Sebastian Vettel (2013) and Michael Schumacher (2004) for the most wins in a single season in F1.
Moreover, if in Japan we looked at Verstappen, now it is his team that can win the constructors’ championship. If Red Bull secures a lead of at least 147 points in the constructors’ standings at the end of the race, they win the title. This means that if Verstappen or his teammate Sergio Pérez win the race, Red Bull will be champions. Ferrari must beat Red Bull by 19 points to stay in the constructors’ championship, and a victory for Red Bull makes that impossible.
The forecast promises clear skies this weekend and we will likely see dry racing conditions for the first time since the Italian Grand Prix.
