Isola: Tire wear was lower than expected

Pirelli is pleased with the performance of the tires during the race in Austin, where the riders used different strategies…

Mario Isola, Pirelli: “In Austin we saw an interesting fight in which tires played an important role. We congratulate Max Verstappen on his victory and Red Bull Racing on yet another Constructors’ Championship and extend our condolences on the passing of Dietrich Mateschitz.

The race was interrupted twice by the safety car getting out, so tire wear was less than we expected today despite the warm weather.

Strategy again proved to be the key factor. Lewis Hamilton tried to make a “cut” by attacking Max Verstappen because of an earlier pit stop – they fought to the finish, and before that we saw a tense duel between Max and Charles Leclerc. Nearly 440,000 spectators witnessed a thrilling battle from start to finish, in which our tires allowed us to attack at the limit.”
