On lap 22 of the US Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso tried to overtake Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin, but he veered left at the last minute, contact started between the cars, sending Spaniard Alpine into the air. Nevertheless, Alonso managed to reach the pits, where after a minor repair his car was put in order, and he returned to the track.
Fernando Alonso (7th): “After hitting Stroll, my car went up in the air and the landing was very hard. By the way, five minutes ago I felt fine, but now there are painful sensations – we have to wait until tomorrow, then it will become clear whether there will be consequences.
But we have a very strong car – usually it ends badly for everyone involved in incidents involving Alpine. And we just changed the nose fairing and tires and then we drove on. I was amazed that the car could go more than thirty laps then, and we still got 7th place after falling back to 17th position. So the race was good!”
Esteban Ocon (11th): “I think after I started from the pitlane somewhere in the race I was in 7th or 8th so we had a chance to score points, and it’s very disappointing that we missed it. I suppose we have something to discuss within the team, but what exactly – I’ll just tell the team about it.
Of course we didn’t qualify very well, but that didn’t stop us from getting into the top ten during the race, so today we had to show a good result – it’s a shame we didn’t manage to do it. “
