Norris: I really enjoyed fighting Fernando

At Austin, Lando Norris had another great race and finished sixth, although he had to overcome several difficulties. His team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo, was one of the last to complete the distance, which he was very angry about but could not explain the reasons for his delay.

Lando Norris (6th): “The race is very difficult from the start. In turn 1 there was an incident and I had to avoid Carlos Sainz’s car and I lost two or three positions. Then the safety car came out, but we made a pit stop a few laps before, so Fernando Alonso beat us because of a later pit stop under the safety car.

In general, there were enough difficulties, but it was nice to come back, although not easy. I had to overtake a lot of cars, but most of all I wanted to be ahead of Fernando and I managed to do that a few laps before the finish. The moment was perfectly chosen, and everything turned out to be perfect.

It was fun, although it was not easy to do circles without making mistakes, but again I was especially happy with the fight with Fernando in the last circles. He is a very difficult opponent, but I have a lot of respect for him because you can rely on him, he handles very correctly on the court, so you can have a very tight fight with him.

The car was capable of a good pace, and we also had good tactics, and we executed exactly what we had in mind. I can’t say I had complete confidence in the car, but over the whole distance I managed to fly to the limit. This ultimately contributed to achieving a good result.”

Daniel Riccardo (16th): “I don’t even know what to say. To be honest, for all of 2022 I have no pace, and I am seriously missing it. I just can’t rely on the car, I can’t let it go fast, I can’t attack well.

There is a lot of variation in the results, which is proof that there is a problem, but it remains a mystery why I lost so much again. I love Texas, I love Austin, but I didn’t enjoy today’s race.

I always thought it couldn’t get any worse, but it turned out not to be. I just don’t know what’s next for me. And to say I’m upset is an understatement.”
