Alpine to appeal Alonso

Alpine decided to protest the decision of the US Grand Prix stewards, who fined Fernando Alonso 30 seconds on the final result.

The Spaniard was fined after stewards granted a protest from Haas F1 alleging that Alonso’s car was in an unsafe technical condition during the race. The FIA stewards and technical staff agreed with this ruling and imposed a fine, which Alpine is now going to challenge.

“The FIA has the right to display a black and orange flag if they consider a car unsafe, but in this case they have not done so, after assessing its condition during the race. In addition, the FIA technical delegate found the car legal after the finish.

In addition, since the protest was filed 24 minutes later than the deadline, it should in principle not have been accepted, so the penalty should be considered null and void.

That is why the team is filing a protest against the original Haas F1 protest,” Alpine said.

If the stewards find Alpine’s protest acceptable, there will most likely be a new hearing before the Mexican Grand Prix.
