Max Verstappen’s win in Austin and Sergio Perez’ fourth place allowed Red Bull Racing to win the Constructors’ Championship ahead of schedule for the 2022 season. For the Milton Keynes team, this is the fifth success in history – before that, Red Bull Racing became the best team in the championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The team dedicated the victory to its founder and owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away after a long illness.
Max Verstappen (1st): “The team had a difficult weekend, so we really wanted to do well in the race. The race went well until the pit stop, which didn’t go as planned. Luckily I managed to bounce back and regain the lead a few laps before the finish. I had to attack until the end – I think Dietrich would have liked a race like that.
Even before the race we believed we would win the Constructors’ Championship, but we wanted to win it by winning. We are very proud of this achievement.”
Sergio Perez (4th): “Winning the Constructors’ Championship means a lot to the team. The last few years have been dominated by Mercedes, but I really hope that now the era of Red Bull starts and we will be able to dominate in the coming years.
The battle in the race turned out to be tense. It’s a shame that half of my wing was damaged – this had a big impact on the speed along the track. When I realized that half of the wing was just missing, I tried to minimize its impact. I think I only missed one lap to overtake and get on the podium. ”
