Mercedes will change the concept of the car in 2023

Since 2014, the Mercedes team has consistently won the Constructors’ Championship, but in 2022, following the switch to a new technical regulation, dropped to third place. Team leader Toto Wolff said the engineers learned from the mistakes made and made adjustments to the car’s concept in 2023.

“It is clear that the DNA of our car will change in 2023,” Racingnews365 quoted Toto Wolff as saying. – That does not mean that the aerodynamic kit will look radically different, but it is also in the DNA of the car. The architecture will change next year.”

Next season Mercedes can spend more time in the wind tunnel than Red Bull Racing. Toto Wolff hopes he can regain the gap with this advantage.

“In 2021 we became the best team and we won the Constructors’ Championship, so we had to reduce the time in the wind tunnel, which was a serious deterrent,” Wolff continues. “As a result, throughout the first half of 2022, we had 7% less time in the wind tunnel than Red Bull 18 months earlier, and much less than Ferrari. Now everything will be the other way around.

If we finish the season in third place compared to Red Bull, we can work 14% more time in the wind tunnel. The regulations are specifically aimed at giving laggards the opportunity to earn back.
